The Ruhr Metropolis has undergone a unique transformation in the past decades: During the last century it was mining and steel industries that characterised landscape and people. Today it is green infrastructure, technology, science and innovation as well as creative potential.

A transformational shift in the Ruhr Metropolis is still ongoing. In this context, the strategy we developed for our region foresees us becoming even more innovative, climate-friendly and liveable.

We aim for three main goals: Becoming the greenest industrial region of the world; becoming an innovation pioneer in topics like digitalisation, healthcare and new materials such as hydrogen; becoming a hotspot for creative minds.

Our region offers excellent professional perspectives, countless opportunities to study and ideal locations for business in the heart of Europe. Qualified professionals, entrepreneurs and students can discover some of the best conditions to start and develop their careers here.

As the chairman of the RVR parliament it is my pleasure to offer you a warm welcome to our fascinating region, one of the largest metropolitan areas in Europe. Inspiring international talents to come and stay in the Ruhr Metropolis is an important goal for the Verbandsversammlung, city authorities and numerous companies.

If you wish to learn more about the region or plan to live and work in the Ruhr Metropolis, I invite you to check the wide-ranging facts on Amazing Capitals Ruhr and/or visit welcome.RUHR. The platform provides access to welcome guides who can give you first answers concerning an upcoming relocation. Come and see for yourself.

Yours sincerely,
Frank Dudda, Chairman, RVR Verbandsversammlung

SOCIALISING IN RUHR

Staying in touch and getting together with others living in a similar situation can be important. Expat groups in social media are highly valuable sources for connecting. Socialising in the Ruhr Metropolis can include events, international clubs or heading for a popular spot to meet international residents.

Public Transport

The public transport system in Ruhr is extensive, safe and normally efficient. A dense network of trams, Strassenbahn, above and below ground as well as buses serve the cities and suburbs. Links via the local and S-Bahn train systems interconnect many neighbouring communities.
