ART VENUES IN RUHR
Interest in the arts is extremely strong in Germany. Funding comes from local, regional and national government and patronage is also high.
This results in strong public subsidies as well as private sponsoring of highly diverse art venues in the Ruhr Metropolis. Impressive collections go hand in hand with inspiring periodic exhibitions. Some unique, modern art museums in the greater Ruhr region work together to achieve more.
Art venues and art museums can be found in downtown locations of many cities across the Ruhr, some of which date back over one hundred years. Many collections have been founded upon or enlarged by gifts and bequests from private collectors.
The public transport system in Ruhr is extensive, safe and normally efficient. A dense network of trams, Strassenbahn, above and below ground as well as buses serve the cities and suburbs. Links via the local and S-Bahn train systems interconnect many neighbouring communities.
