DIVING IN RUHR
Scuba divers can reach depths of thirteen metres in the massive former gas storage chamber, Gasometer, on the landscape park of Duisburg north. The impressive construction awaits professionals and beginners with sweet waters at temperatures that vary with the seasons. Diving clubs and diverse locations for the sport can be found in many other locations in most corners of the Ruhr Metropolis.
SKY DIVING IN RUHR
Experience the dream of flight in Europe’s highest wind tunnel and be part of an unforgettable mix of emotions, fun, adrenaline and endorphins. The airflow with a maximum speed of up to 280km/h is as smooth as in real skydiving. The flight time is longer than two skydives from 13,000 feet. Professionals appreciate the realistic freefall simulation, while beginners need no practice or previous knowledge.
GOLF IN RUHR
Golf courses can be discovered all across the Ruhr Metropolis for lovers of the sport. Greens generally present the high quality that is to be expected in Germany. Clubs differ on ambiance, memberships, policies, opening times, green fees and availability for guests. From Duisburg to Hagen, Essen to Unna or Bochum to Kamp-Lintfort, the choice is large. One particularly enjoyable golf course is located in Mülheim.
ICE SKATING IN RUHR
The people of Ruhr, it seems, adore ice skating. Halls and centres have been built over the years across the whole region. The list includes Bochum, Dinslaken, Dorsten, Dortmund, Duisburg, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Hamm, Herne, Moers, Ratingen, Unna, Wesel and Witten. Besides indoor arenas, many highly popular, temporary ice skating rinks are erected in some of the downtown areas of Ruhr to accompany seasonal Christmas markets.
LACROSSE IN RUHR
One of the oldest sports in the world, lacrosse was apparently invented by indigenous American Indians. Following its introduction to students, the game gained popularity globally. Three lacrosse clubs are in the Ruhr Metropolis. The eldest is in Essen, others are located in Bochum and Dortmund. Clubs welcome amateurs who wish to join them to improve on their playing standards and enjoy the sport.
